Diary
Before the rot set in, Oleg trained at dawn on the palace roof at Himeji, blade drawn against a horizon he meant to conquer with unsmiling discipline, and men spoke his name the way one speaks of weather that will surely ruin the harvest. Then came the afternoon he found Raiku the Stoner sprawled across the tiles, giggling at clouds shaped like nothing, and Oleg's palm met his face with the same gravity he once reserved for enemy generals. The slap echoed off the roof tiles like a verdict, and something in Oleg understood, with the slow horror of a man watching his own temple crumble, that ambition had just become a punchline he would never be told the ending to. He retired that very hour, folding his resolve like a funeral banner, and now sits cross-legged in the dojo's corner attempting meditation while the others pass a joint he refuses on principle and accepts on Tuesdays out of some grim, misunderstood duty to camaraderie. He still calls it discipline. It has been, by every honest account, the longest losing streak of his life.
Worn deliberately. The Nails fighters made choices with their appearance that most would call unconventional and they would call honest.
Military patience. The Olive Green fighters do not announce themselves. They wait. Then they move.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Memento mori made fashionable. The Skull Kimono fighters remember what's at stake and wear the reminder so they never forget.
Of all the Olegs, the one who never got the memo any of it was supposed to be funny. He made war a vocation — grave, total, and frightening for exactly that reason.
Traditional, ornamented. The Shoji Tassel Glasses fighters dress their perception in ceremony — seeing is a ritual for them, not a reflex.
Tied before the fight. The Green Bandana fighters have a ritual of preparation — the bandana is how they mark the transition.
War god's spear. Divine reach. The Bishamon Yari fighters have authorization from something older than the Dojo.
