Diary
Serious Oleg does not laugh, not even in his sleep, so when he woke on a mat in Okonawa to find an unfamiliar hand exploring territory no treaty had authorized, he treated the violation with the gravity of a border skirmish. He rose in one motion, bowed to no one, and demanded an accounting of dishonor as though the culprit were a rival clan rather than a very drunk fellow degen who had simply aped into the wrong futon after the sake ran out. Oleg has never been more miserable, and he says so daily, in the same flat funeral tone he uses for everything, because for a man who once meditated at dawn and slept with his blade unsheathed, being groped by a stranger feels like the final proof that discipline itself has been rugged from his life. He now sleeps sitting upright against the dojo wall, sword across his knees, vowing eternal vigilance, and every single night he still drifts off within the hour, weed-heavy eyelids betraying the warrior he insists he still is. Nobody has told him it's funny. Nobody ever will.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Between midday and dusk. The Orange Afternoon fighters are in the middle of something — not finished, not starting, exactly where they need to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Of all the Olegs, the one who never got the memo any of it was supposed to be funny. He made war a vocation — grave, total, and frightening for exactly that reason.
Carried more than worn. The Pocket Glasses fighters have perfect vision when they choose to apply it — the rest of the time, they let instinct run.
The Dojo wrote on it. The Degen Graffiti Rice Hat fighters carry the collection's mark on the highest point of their body.
Repurposed. Made for the earth, used for the fight. The Farmers Hoe fighters don't distinguish between cultivation and combat.
