Diary
Oleg does not remember the bridge’s name, only that Azuma’s blade taught him more in one afternoon than a decade of drinking rice wine and losing at dice ever did, and he has never once treated that lesson as a joke. He rose from that spar a warrior reborn, walked straight to the nearest shrine still bleeding from a shallow cut, and swore himself to the Buddha with the gravity of a man signing a peace treaty rather than a guy who got clipped under an overpass. Now he meditates for exactly one hour each dawn, chanting with such ferocious sincerity that the other fighters have started placing bets on when he will finally crack a smile, a bet Oleg considers deeply disrespectful to the sutras. His discipline holds until someone rolls a joint near the dojo garden, at which point enlightenment briefly loses to secondhand vapor and Oleg glares at the offender like Azuma himself has been reincarnated as a bad influence. Still he returns to the cushion every single time, jaw set, eyes burning, treating his own failure to stay unbothered as just another koan the universe has rudely assigned him.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Red moon, heightened stakes. The Red High Moon backgrounds mark the moments when everything was on the line and the fighter stayed.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Not quite there yet. The Warlock Wannabe fighters are in the process of becoming something more — and the gap between aspiration and arrival is where they live.
Of all the Olegs, the one who never got the memo any of it was supposed to be funny. He made war a vocation — grave, total, and frightening for exactly that reason.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Floor-mat helmet. The Tatami Kabuto fighters made armor from the training floor itself — they carry the place they trained in wherever they go.
