Diary
Botan walked into the men's pleasure house the way lesser men walk into a burning temple, unbothered, unblinking, already bored of the outcome before it arrived. The Degen Scholar sat cross legged in a haze of weed smoke, surrounded by scrolls he clearly hadn't read and a ledger of degens he'd definitely rugged, and Botan simply sat down across from him and said nothing, which somehow counted as conversation. Between long silences and one very confusing lecture on floor prices disguised as bushido, something sharpened in Botan's spine, an old discipline flickering awake like a pilot light in a house nobody bothered to insulate. He left hours later with his stance cleaner, his strikes crueler, and his fear account permanently overdrawn, the Dojo watching in the kind of silence usually reserved for men who return from places they shouldn't have survived. They call it respect now, though Botan privately suspects it's just relief, since everyone assumed the pleasure house would finally be the thing that ended him, and instead it only made him worse in the most useful way possible.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Red moon, heightened stakes. The Red High Moon backgrounds mark the moments when everything was on the line and the fighter stayed.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Unglamorous and honest. The Black Peasant Sack fighters didn't dress for anyone else. They dressed for function and found that function is its own statement.
'Botan' — a peony, a beautiful flower on a genuinely terrible situation. Somewhere in the wars he saw a thing that removed his fear permanently and never gave it back.
Still wearing them. The Bloodied Glasses fighters need nothing to be clean to keep seeing clearly.
Color and structure combined. The Orange Bantu Knots fighters make their warmth architectural.
Patience as weapon. The Noose fighters don't rush — they set the conditions and wait for the opponent to walk into them.
