Botan's family home used to feed the poor at the gate every winter, a small ritual of discipline his ancestors kept like a blade oiled and sheathed, and Botan kept it too, for a while, before he decided patience was a floor price he simply refused to hold. He robbed them instead, the beggars at his own family's threshold, calm as a man collecting rent, no tremor in the hand that once trembled for no one anyway since the day the fear was cut clean out of him. When his patience finally snapped it didn't explode, it just went quiet, the way a rug pull goes quiet right before the liquidity vanishes, and he watched himself do it like a spectator grading his own poor form. Now he sits with what's left, degenerate coin jingling where rice used to be given freely, and wonders about the future the way a gambler wonders about the next hand, unbothered, unafraid, aware he has already lost the only discipline worth keeping. He tells himself next winter he'll give it all back, doubled, and everyone who's heard him say that before just nods and buys another round.
Worn as trophy or warning — nobody is quite sure which. The Chicken Bones fighters have a ceremony for everything and share it with no one.
Lived-in color. The Warm Grey background belongs to fighters who have been through enough that their edges have softened without their core changing.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Unglamorous and honest. The Black Peasant Sack fighters didn't dress for anyone else. They dressed for function and found that function is its own statement.
'Botan' — a peony, a beautiful flower on a genuinely terrible situation. Somewhere in the wars he saw a thing that removed his fear permanently and never gave it back.

Time made visible, flowing. Flowing Dreads fighters carry their history in motion — every lock a year, and the years are moving now.
