Diary
Before the doors ever slid open, Shitless Botan had already buried the part of himself that flinches, back on some forgotten battlefield where fear was cut out clean and never grew back. So when he reached out and touched Haruto right there in front of the shoji, calm as a man greeting rain, he felt nothing when his entire stack evaporated on the other side of that decision, no jolt, no panic, just the dry click of numbers hitting zero. He stood in the wreckage of his own fortune the way a monk stands in ash, and said aloud, to no one and everyone, that the real rug wasn't the wealth, it was the company he'd kept while losing it. There is a discipline in his blankness, an old samurai stillness gone feral, and he tries, badly, to channel it into picking better friends instead of better bags, failing nightly at both while insisting he's never once been afraid of the outcome. Botan doesn't chase comfort anymore, only better witnesses to his ruin, and somewhere behind those shoji doors, Haruto is still laughing.”
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
The hour when most give up. The Blue Evening fighters are still at their desk, still watching the chart, still holding.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Soft exterior. The Puppy Kimono fighters discovered that disarming presentation is its own strategy — you stop seeing the threat until it's too late.
'Botan' — a peony, a beautiful flower on a genuinely terrible situation. Somewhere in the wars he saw a thing that removed his fear permanently and never gave it back.
Paper screen optics. The Shoji Glasses fighters see the world through traditional frames — and find that the tradition holds.
On fire, stable. The Burning Basket fighters operate in conditions most find impossible and have stopped noticing the fire.
Heavy, ceramic, purpose-built for one thing and used for another. The Giant Sake Bottle fighters are creative about their arsenal.
