Diary
Botan once carried himself like a man who had already died and simply forgot to fall down, which was fine right up until the day he opened his mouth to Ikari in Okinawa and his honor quietly excused itself from the room. Nobody agreed on what was said. Some claim he offered Ikari a rug-pulled sword hilt as collateral for a bet on the tide; others swear he simply told a truth so unsanitized that the old ways cracked like cheap floor mats. Whatever happened, Botan felt no shame about it, because shame requires fear, and fear was surgically removed from him somewhere between the war and the weed. Now he sits cross-legged in the ruins of his own reputation, hand-rolling a joint in one hand and a brush in the other, drafting the sacred, deranged Degen Handbook, Chapter One titled
Sober, unlike the drunk variant. The Lizard fighters have a companion with excellent judgment who never asks for anything and always seems to know when to leave.
Red moon, heightened stakes. The Red High Moon backgrounds mark the moments when everything was on the line and the fighter stayed.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Self-described. The Womanizer clothing is a declaration that the fighter has a particular relationship with the world and considers this worth advertising.
'Botan' — a peony, a beautiful flower on a genuinely terrible situation. Somewhere in the wars he saw a thing that removed his fear permanently and never gave it back.
Still wearing them. The Bloodied Glasses fighters need nothing to be clean to keep seeing clearly.
Intentional declaration. The Mohawk Spike fighters made a choice that announces itself before they speak.
The floor weapon. Everywhere. Common because common is honest — the Rusty Nail fighters know that what you find is often better than what you planned.
