Diary
They say Botan's fear got surgically removed somewhere between the third seppuku he talked himself out of and the first time he stared down a wildfire and just shrugged, and maybe that's true, but the real story is Mount Fuji, a fat blunt, and a man who ran out of things worth panicking about. He climbed the mountain a ronin full of rage, sat at the summit, ripped a bowl that could have flattened a shogunate, and came down the other side a good man, calm as a corpse, dangerous as a loaded question. He tells anyone who'll listen that he lives one day at a time now, which sounds noble until you realize it's because he genuinely cannot remember yesterday and has stopped trying. He still wakes each morning swearing today's the day he meditates before he apes into another bag of Fuji's finest, and every single day the mountain wins that fight without even trying. Discipline got rugged off his floor a long time ago, but Botan just laughs that gallows laugh, says the unsayable out loud, and lights another one like fear was always somebody else's problem.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Bright but not loud. The Teal Daytime fighters are the ones you underestimate because they don't announce their arrival.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Maximum exposure by choice. The Nudey Freak fighters are not unclothed by accident — they made a considered decision and stand by it in all weather.
'Botan' — a peony, a beautiful flower on a genuinely terrible situation. Somewhere in the wars he saw a thing that removed his fear permanently and never gave it back.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
The Dojo's version of a mohawk. More specific, more named. The Dejen Mohawk fighters chose the Dojo's interpretation of rebellion over the generic one.
The floor weapon. Everywhere. Common because common is honest — the Rusty Nail fighters know that what you find is often better than what you planned.
