Shitless Botan once carried a temper the way old samurai carried steel, sharp, honed, ready for war, but the Meiji Jungle stripped that from him same as it stripped the fear right out of his gut. Vines everywhere, humidity like a wet fist, and his kimono betraying him at the worst possible second, he did not scream, did not flinch, he simply stood there in the ruin of his own dignity and calculated the odds of anyone having seen it. Somebody had. He has replayed that steamy afternoon a thousand times since, not with shame exactly, more like a monk turning a cursed koan, because Botan feels nothing where fear should live, yet the memory still finds a way to needle him. Every dojo morning he vows discipline, breath control, composure of a true warrior, and every dojo morning he ends up cackling at his own filth again like the jungle never let him go. Fearless in body, feral in bowel, that is the whole tragic comedy of Shitless Botan, unbothered by blades yet undone by his own kimono.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Paper screens at night. The Shoji Night fighters were born in the quiet hours, when the market sleeps and only the committed are still at their screens.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Excess made armor. The Glutton Fight fighters wear their hunger on the outside — not for food, but for everything the Dojo offers.
'Botan' — a peony, a beautiful flower on a genuinely terrible situation. Somewhere in the wars he saw a thing that removed his fear permanently and never gave it back.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Extinct power, still present. The Sabertooth Skull fighters wear something that doesn't exist anymore — which means they carry it forward.
The other fish weapon. The Dead Fish fighters use something that smells like loss as a weapon — opponents are too confused to defend properly.
