Diary
Botan didn't flinch when the first molar hit the noodle broth, just watched it sink like a coin tossed into a shrine fountain and figured that was as good a wish as any. Junichiro swung a barstool clean through what used to be the specials board while the old ramen master screamed about his floor now literally missing tiles, and Botan just grinned red and said, calm as a man discussing weather, that he'd always wanted fewer teeth to floss anyway. Word is he walked out mid-brawl to buy a bag of weed off some kid outside, came back in, sat down, and kept eating the same bowl of shoyu ramen like nothing happened, blood and broth mixing into something he called seasoning. These days he claims he's chasing a quieter life, meditation, tea ceremonies, maybe a nice garden to rake, but he still can't walk past a noodle shop without sizing up the exits and the nearest blunt object out of old habit. Discipline for Botan looks like sitting cross-legged for four whole minutes before muttering
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Bright but not loud. The Teal Daytime fighters are the ones you underestimate because they don't announce their arrival.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Self-described. The Womanizer clothing is a declaration that the fighter has a particular relationship with the world and considers this worth advertising.
'Botan' — a peony, a beautiful flower on a genuinely terrible situation. Somewhere in the wars he saw a thing that removed his fear permanently and never gave it back.
Formal vision. The Spectacles fighters approached clarity with the same seriousness they bring to everything else — completely.
Named for the legendary fighter. The Red Heihachi fighters carry that name's weight in every match and find it light.
A live chicken. As a weapon. The Chicken fighters have committed to an approach that nobody expected and found that unexpectedness is half the battle.
