Diary
Once, Rin was the sentry who never blinked, the samurai who packed three spare blades because two felt reckless, and now that vigilance has nowhere to go but inward. It all curdled the day he stopped to talk with The Old Dragon on Degens Path, a conversation from which he swears he caught a disease, and he relives that moment every single day, cross-checking every cough against a scroll of imagined symptoms. He tells himself he will reclaim his old discipline tomorrow, right after he triple-checks the locks, sharpens the blades he already sharpened, and rewrites his will just in case, which somehow eats the whole day. The floor of his mind is a hospice for worst-case scenarios, and he tends each one like a garden. Some warriors ache for war; Rin aches for the calm of having something real to fear.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Paper screens at night. The Shoji Night fighters were born in the quiet hours, when the market sleeps and only the committed are still at their screens.
Worn by the 42 Framed and no one else. A Dojocho (道場長) runs the dojo, and red is the belt you stop counting toward. Framed cards never crack, so this one never comes off.
The one the captain trusted with the plan — he mapped every ravine, counted every arrow, rationed rice to the grain so his squad would live. Now he plans everything and controls nothing.
Ritual clothing for someone who crossed between worlds. The Bird Shaman fighters dress for the journey they're already on, not the destination.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
On fire, stable. The Burning Basket fighters operate in conditions most find impossible and have stopped noticing the fire.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,468 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The poisonous pufferfish as a weapon. The Frightened Fugu fighters chose something lethal that looks absurd — and find that this is the most accurate description of themselves.
