Diary
TOKUDA WAS A GREAT MAN, ask anyone who's dead now, they'll vouch for him between coughs. Before the Degen Dojo swallowed him whole he held a blade like it owed him money and a battle line like it was his own front porch, but then the wars ended and the widows came calling, soft-eyed and grieving and entirely too available, and Tokuda answered every single knock. He fornicated his way through half a prefecture's mourning population, HONORABLY, he insists, loudly, to anyone within earshot, as if volume were a form of penance. Now he sits in the Dojo's back room reeking of sake and regret, screaming inspirational nonsense at a training dummy that has seen better days and worse men, swearing on his ancestors' ashes that tomorrow he starts the discipline back up, tomorrow the widows stay widowed and the sword stays sharp. Tomorrow never quite arrives, but Tokuda keeps shouting into it anyway, because a man who can still yell
Decorative. Traditional. The Tassel fighters know that ornament and function are not opposites — presentation is part of performance.
Bright but not loud. The Teal Daytime fighters are the ones you underestimate because they don't announce their arrival.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The battle-cry made flesh — his roar once turned breaking lines around. Now he barks the same orders across a crooked gambling table, losing quietly to himself in the loudest way possible.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Golden cone hat of the sea. The Golden Kasa Fisherman fighters came from somewhere patient and arrived with that patience intact.
Implies infirmity, delivers otherwise. The Wooden Walking Cane fighters move slower than expected and hit harder than prepared for.
