TOKUDA CARVED HIS FIRST WOODEN BLADE IN THE BACK ROOM OF THE MEN'S PLEASURE HOUSE, and gods help him, something in his ronin heart clicked back into place, whittling katana-shaped nonsense while the working girls laughed at his focus, his tongue out, sawdust in his topknot like some deranged snow. He shouted at the wood the way he used to shout at enemy lines, HOLD STILL, YOU COWARD, and swore later he felt something stir that had nothing to do with the blade at all, a shameful little spark he now blames entirely on the ambiance. For one glorious afternoon he was disciplined again, a craftsman, a good man reborn from shavings and quiet purpose, and he tells everyone at the Dojo it changed him forever. It did not. He's back to aping into sake bets and getting rugged by dice by sundown, still hauling that one splintery practice sword everywhere like a war medal, ready to scream a battle cry at absolutely nobody, refusing, on principle, to ever shut up about it.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Lived-in color. The Warm Grey background belongs to fighters who have been through enough that their edges have softened without their core changing.
