Diary
Young Yuji never got a real war, just the tail end of one that closed its gates before he could kick them down, so he went looking for glory in a snowfield outside the Dojo at 3 a.m., blade drawn, chasing a legend that had already left town without him. What found him instead was a furious flock of crows, or hawks, or something with talons and zero respect for a sleepless kid's ambitions, and within a minute his katana was in a drift and his dreams were scattered like feathers across the white. He limped back to the Dojo bleeding, humiliated, insisting the birds had been "basically ronin, basically," and somehow that unhinged commitment to a losing bit earned him nods from elders who'd seen far less honest failures. Now he tries to meditate before sunrise like the old scrolls say, but he's three energy drinks deep and vibrating, whispering affirmations about discipline while his knee bounces like it's still running from the flock. The respect stuck anyway, because in the Dojo they know a kid still swinging at ghosts of a war that ended too soon when they see one, and Yuji swings hardest of all.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Between midday and dusk. The Orange Afternoon fighters are in the middle of something — not finished, not starting, exactly where they need to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Still becoming, and always will be — the wars ended before he got to finish. All promise and no scars, certain his great chapter was over the next hill. The hill turned out to be the last one.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Organization meets chaos. The Yakuza Hooligan fighters have discipline from one tradition and abandon from another, and they've combined them into something entirely their own.
