Diary
Young Yuji was too young for the war that made men out of blades, so he built his own battles inside four thin walls, whispering strategy and heresy alike to the only soldier who ever truly listened, himself, the boy he called Yuji when the loneliness got loud. Someone heard through the paper screens, decided a mind that free was a mind too dangerous, and took the one part of him nobody asked about, leaving a wound that never sealed and a war he never got to fight. Now he doesn't sleep so much as wait, jittery on cheap sake and worse decisions, replaying that night on loop like it might end different if he just stays awake long enough to change it. He tells the other degens at the Dojo he's chasing glory, but really he's chasing the boy he was before the cut, the one who still believed talking to yourself in the dark was safe. Every morning he swears discipline, cold water, silence, prayer, and every night finds him drunk-shouting his own name into an empty room like it'll answer back this time.
Whose bones? The fighter who wears them knows. They're not saying. The Finger Bones fighters operate on a level of commitment that most find uncomfortable.
Between midday and dusk. The Orange Afternoon fighters are in the middle of something — not finished, not starting, exactly where they need to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Not a garment — a record. The Battle Scars clothing is what's left after everything else was stripped away. These fighters wear their history.
Still becoming, and always will be — the wars ended before he got to finish. All promise and no scars, certain his great chapter was over the next hill. The hill turned out to be the last one.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Broad shade, broad vision. The Wide Kasa Fisherman fighters cover more ground with their hat than most cover with their plans.
Direct. No ambiguity. The Axe fighters made a decision about what kind of fighter they are and the axe confirms it every time.
