Diary
Young Yuji never got his real war, so he builds tiny ones everywhere he goes, and the Edo palace was just another battlefield waiting to happen when he cornered Bob near the koi pond to talk floor prices and forgotten glory. Nobody quite knows what Bob did, some say a cursed sake, some say static electricity from all that anxious pacing, but Yuji watched his topknot go up like a struck match and felt more alive than he had in months. He didn't scream, didn't run, just stood there grinning at his own scorched scalp like a kid who'd finally found a fight worth losing. That night he swore, hand on chest, that tomorrow he'd wake at dawn, meditate, restring his bow, become the disciplined blade his old sensei dreamed of, right after he told this story to literally everyone he passes on the road. He's still telling it, hairless and thrilled, chasing a war that ended before he ever got there, one degenerate detour at a time.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Military patience. The Olive Green fighters do not announce themselves. They wait. Then they move.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Ritual clothing for someone who crossed between worlds. The Bird Shaman fighters dress for the journey they're already on, not the destination.
Still becoming, and always will be — the wars ended before he got to finish. All promise and no scars, certain his great chapter was over the next hill. The hill turned out to be the last one.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Practical. Focused. The Hair Bun fighters pulled back what was in their eyes so they could see the whole board.
The floor weapon. Everywhere. Common because common is honest — the Rusty Nail fighters know that what you find is often better than what you planned.
