Young Yuji was born about four minutes too late for the last real war, and he has spent every sleepless night since trying to catch up to a glory train that already left the station without him. Among the pines outside the dojo he found Botan running his mouth about honor codes nobody follows anymore, and Yuji, twitchy on no sleep and three warm cans of something he shouldn't have aped into, decided the fastest way to settle the philosophy debate was with his fists. He dropped Botan clean, one shot, then stood over him in the dirt asking out loud whether a samurai who knocks a man out mid sentence about honor still gets to claim any, the question echoing off trees that offered no answer. The other fighters call him a lunatic now, and he wears it like a rank he actually earned, laughing too hard, eyes too wide, still hearing drums from a battlefield that closed shop years ago. Every morning he vows to meditate before breakfast, find some stillness, act like the disciplined blade he was raised to be, and every morning he ends up swinging at shadows in the trees by noon, chasing a war that simply will not rematch him.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
The hour when most give up. The Blue Evening fighters are still at their desk, still watching the chart, still holding.
