Young Yuji never got the war he trained for, only the after, and he has spent every night since trying to build one out of whatever's left in the alley behind the noodle stand. So when the wild boar came snorting out of the trash like it owed him a debt, he saw not a pest but a battlefield, and he drew steel the way his old sensei taught him, clean and sure and completely unnecessary. The kill was perfect, the kind of strike that would have earned him a nod once, but the only witnesses were three degens with a betting pool riding on the boar surviving the night, and Yuji had aped his entire stack against it living. He stood there dripping with glory nobody wanted, wallet emptied, honor technically intact and financially worthless, and swore for the hundredth time he'd stop swinging his blade at anything that isn't a real enemy. He broke that promise before sunrise, at a rooster this time, and he's still telling himself the coop owed him one too.
