Young Yuji never got the war he wanted, so he built himself a smaller one at the yakiniku joint on the corner, screaming into the grill smoke like it owed him a legacy, swinging chopsticks at imaginary ronin until his own hairline surrendered before the enemy ever did. Three a.m. and he is still there, sake-drunk and sleepless, telling the register kid about glory that left town before he was old enough to chase it, insisting this time he will train, this time he will wake at dawn and meditate instead of aping into another degenerate poker night with dudes who ghost him the second the floor drops. He counts his current crew: two rugged gamblers, one guy who only texts when he needs bail money, and a weed dealer who calls him
