Diary
Young Yuji was born a beat too late for the last real battle, and every night since he's been trying to catch up to a war that packed its bags and left without him. He found Legless Tom slumped against a vending machine in Shinjuku, a man missing half his legs and none of his opinions, and the two of them drank cheap shochu straight from the bottle like it was a ritual older than either of them. Somewhere around bottle number three, between Tom's slurred lecture on impermanence and a stray dog judging them both, Yuji felt something click, an actual sliver of enlightenment sneaking in through the gutter instead of the dojo. He swears now he understands bushido better than any sensei ever taught him, though he still hasn't slept a full night since the wars ended and he chases that same electric buzz of nearly-dying in every dice game and back-alley scrap he can find. Wiser, sure, Yuji says, but he's still the kid trying to sprint toward glory that already caught the last train out of town.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Neither dark nor white. The Light Grey background belongs to fighters who operate in the space between certainties and have made it comfortable there.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The dragon lives on the body now. The Dragon Head Tattoo fighters carry their ambition on the surface — it's not hidden, and it's not a metaphor.
Still becoming, and always will be — the wars ended before he got to finish. All promise and no scars, certain his great chapter was over the next hill. The hill turned out to be the last one.
Formal vision. The Spectacles fighters approached clarity with the same seriousness they bring to everything else — completely.
Ceremony interrupted. The Disheveled Geisha fighters started something formal and ended something entirely different.
Not metaphorical. Someone's leg bone, spiked. The Spiky Femur fighters have been here long enough that the bones of their enemies are now equipment.
