Diary
Young Yuji was born a beat too late for the real war, so he practices glory in empty lots at 3 a.m., swinging a stick like it still means something. The evening he trained under The Bearded Bandit, the old degen tried to teach him stillness, tried to teach him breath, tried to teach him the sacred art of standing in one place without vibrating out of his own skin, and somewhere in that lesson Yuji's sandals simply vanished, kicked off in some fit of restless energy and never seen again. He walked home barefoot on gravel like a wounded legend, grinning the whole way, because to him losing the sandals wasn't failure, it was proof he'd finally moved fast enough to leave something behind. He tells the story now like it's a scar from a real battle, chest puffed, eyes sleepless and shining, insisting discipline is coming any day now, right after this next hand, this next puff, this next sunrise he swears he'll actually sleep through. The Bandit just shakes his head, because some kids don't lose their sandals, they lose the plot, and somehow still walk around looking like they won.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Royalty that refused the crown. The Purple Night backgrounds belong to fighters who could have been somewhere easier and chose not to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Traditional footwear made into a statement. The Strap On Geta fighters move in a way that makes noise — deliberate, rhythmic, impossible to miss.
Still becoming, and always will be — the wars ended before he got to finish. All promise and no scars, certain his great chapter was over the next hill. The hill turned out to be the last one.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
After. The Messy fighters' hair tells you what happened — not what they planned, but what they went through.
Organization-issue. The Yakuza Club fighters have backup in the weight of the weapon itself — it carries institutional authority.
