Diary
Young Yuji never got his war, so he picked fights with ghosts instead, and at Kiyomizu-Dera he found some old samurai lecturing about honor and decided that was as good a war as any. He swung wild, connected with nothing but a temple post, and snapped his own finger clean while the monks watched him scream about legacy like it was a debt collector. Every night since he swears tomorrow he starts training again, wraps the finger, sets an alarm, meditates on discipline for four whole minutes before the itch in his blood sends him back out chasing something shaped like glory. Now he stands on the street corner below the temple selling himself, hawking swagger and stories to anyone with yen, because a warrior with no war and a broken hand still has to eat. He tells himself this is temporary, a rebuild arc, but the sun keeps rising on the same kid who missed his moment and is still swinging at it anyway.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Paper screens at night. The Shoji Night fighters were born in the quiet hours, when the market sleeps and only the committed are still at their screens.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Memento mori made fashionable. The Skull Kimono fighters remember what's at stake and wear the reminder so they never forget.
Still becoming, and always will be — the wars ended before he got to finish. All promise and no scars, certain his great chapter was over the next hill. The hill turned out to be the last one.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Floor-mat helmet. The Tatami Kabuto fighters made armor from the training floor itself — they carry the place they trained in wherever they go.
Not metaphorical. Someone's leg bone, spiked. The Spiky Femur fighters have been here long enough that the bones of their enemies are now equipment.
