They called him Akuma in the war because the name fit like a blade fits a scabbard, and he never bothered correcting anyone since, honestly, the shoe still fits. At sunset he aped everything he had left, honor, breath, the last clean version of himself, into one final duel for the shogunate, certain the gods owed him a floor beneath his ambition. Instead they rugged him clean, and he watched the title slip to another man's hands while the sky bled orange like it was mocking his aesthetic. Now he tells himself discipline is just one more mountain to meditate on, right after this bowl of weed and whatever sake is left in the jug, a promise he breaks nightly with the same demonic grin that earned him his name. Akuma still trains at dawn some days, mostly to prove the devil in him hasn't fully won, though the devil, darkly amused, always seems to be winning anyway.
Without the gold. The Jesuit Crosses fighters have the same conviction but carry it lighter — the weight is in the belief, not the metal.
The hour when most give up. The Blue Evening fighters are still at their desk, still watching the chart, still holding.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Explicit in every sense. The Fuck You Kimono fighters made a communication choice and wore it. No ambiguity. No apology.
'Akuma' means devil, a name he didn't choose. The survivors needed a word bigger than soldier for what he did on the field, and it stuck.
Traditional, ornamented. The Shoji Tassel Glasses fighters dress their perception in ceremony — seeing is a ritual for them, not a reflex.
Aged. Sharp. The Short Spiky Grey fighters have been here long enough for color to leave — and found that what remained is more pointed than before.
War god's spear. Divine reach. The Bishamon Yari fighters have authorization from something older than the Dojo.
