They called him Akuma back in the war, a name earned in blood and never once denied, and he still wears it like a rusted helmet, half amused that the demon everyone feared now can't even win an argument at a shrine. He'd gone there for quiet, for discipline, some scrap of the old bushido code he keeps trying to ape back into his life, but a smug band of samurai mistook his silence for weakness and mistook his temper for something they could correct with a blade. They corrected it, alright, took his balls clean off like clipping a bonsai, and Akuma laughed the whole ride down because of course the universe would rug the one part of him nobody ever dared touch before. Now he's retreating into the jungle, half meditation retreat and half fever dream, chewing weed leaves and mumbling old sutras he can't finish, telling the monkeys that discipline is coming back any day now, any day. The monkeys, wisely, do not believe him, and neither does the demon grinning underneath the pain.
Without the gold. The Jesuit Crosses fighters have the same conviction but carry it lighter — the weight is in the belief, not the metal.
Unclear until it clears. The Grey Mist backgrounds belong to fighters who operate where others can't see, and use that fog as their advantage.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Half the statement. The Skull Sleeve fighters communicate their philosophy in one arm — the other arm is for whatever needs doing next.
'Akuma' means devil, a name he didn't choose. The survivors needed a word bigger than soldier for what he did on the field, and it stuck.
Still wearing them. The Bloodied Glasses fighters need nothing to be clean to keep seeing clearly.
Practical. Focused. The Hair Bun fighters pulled back what was in their eyes so they could see the whole board.
Not metaphorical. Someone's leg bone, spiked. The Spiky Femur fighters have been here long enough that the bones of their enemies are now equipment.
