Diary
They called him Akuma in the war because the name fit like a blade fits a scabbard, and he has never once tried to shake it off, not even now that his battles are fought over half-empty jugs of sake instead of open fields. In the sake house at the edge of town he spread rumors the way other men spread coin, aping into every whisper that crossed the room, convinced his tongue was still as sharp as the katana he retired. The gossip came back on him uglier than any wound, some nameless rot he caught passing lies from ear to ear, and now his own body feels like a floor that got rugged out from under him. He tells himself discipline means training the mind to survive one day at a time, though most days that discipline looks a lot like counting sake cups instead of breaths. Still, he grins through the fever, because a demon who cannot laugh at his own ruin was never much of a demon to begin with.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Paper screens at night. The Shoji Night fighters were born in the quiet hours, when the market sleeps and only the committed are still at their screens.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The blue Oni does not rage. The blue Oni waits. The Blue Oni Tattoo fighters are the calmest ones in the room — which makes them the most dangerous.
'Akuma' means devil, a name he didn't choose. The survivors needed a word bigger than soldier for what he did on the field, and it stuck.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Movement made permanent. The Long Flowing fighters trail behind themselves in every room they enter — the hair arrives first, then the fighter.
Organization-issue. The Yakuza Club fighters have backup in the weight of the weapon itself — it carries institutional authority.
