They called him Akuma back when the wars still meant something, and he wore the name like armor because the alternative was admitting how much he liked what it made people believe. In the Meiji Jungle, half-baked and fully rugged by his own bad decisions, he sat across from Edmundo and expected another degenerate ramble about floors and rekt positions, but instead the man talked to him like a human being worth saving. Something cracked open that night, some buried samurai instinct, and Akuma walked out swearing he'd become good, disciplined, reformed, a new man forged in shame over everything the old one had done. He held that promise for maybe eleven days before the weed and the whiskey and the itch for chaos came calling again, and now he just laughs, low and demonic, whenever anyone brings up his brief stint as a decent human being. The shame never left though, it just moved in next to the menace, two roommates who hate each other but can't afford to leave.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Between midday and dusk. The Orange Afternoon fighters are in the middle of something — not finished, not starting, exactly where they need to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Half the statement. The Skull Sleeve fighters communicate their philosophy in one arm — the other arm is for whatever needs doing next.
'Akuma' means devil, a name he didn't choose. The survivors needed a word bigger than soldier for what he did on the field, and it stuck.
Still functional. Functionally broken. The Broken Glasses fighters see a cracked version of reality and have found it more honest than the uncracked one.
Focus made visible. The Karate Headband fighters bound their intention around their skull so it couldn't escape during the fight.
