They called him Akuma because the name scared recruiters more than his actual sword work ever did, and Akuma, ever the brand manager of his own legend, never once corrected them. The truth, which he tells only the bottom of an empty sake cup, is that the demon was born in a stinking alley the night his kimono betrayed him worse than any enemy blade ever could, fear loosening what discipline was supposed to hold tight. He rebuilt himself into something fanged and unshakeable specifically so no one would ever smell that night on him again, and it worked so well the legend outlived the war that made it necessary. Now he sits in the Dojo half amused, half haunted, wondering what gentler warrior he might have become without that alley, before he ganks a floor sweep on some ape-brained token and loses the thread entirely. Discipline was supposed to be the whole point of becoming a demon, and yet here he is, menacing on the outside, still quietly picking gravel out of the memory of that ruined kimono.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Royalty that refused the crown. The Purple Night backgrounds belong to fighters who could have been somewhere easier and chose not to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Left the order. Didn't stop fighting. The Dejen Apostate fighters broke from whatever school trained them and found that the training stayed anyway.
'Akuma' means devil, a name he didn't choose. The survivors needed a word bigger than soldier for what he did on the field, and it stuck.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
The tiger, bound. The Tiger Headband Ruffian fighters contain something predatory with a strip of cloth and consider this sufficient.
Precious redirection. The Golden Sai fighters catch what's thrown at them and return it changed — in gold.
