They called him Akuma back when a blade in his hand meant something, when discipline was a temple he actually visited instead of just posting about. The men whisper it still means demon, and Akuma just grins, because the mask fits better now than the old samurai robes ever did. It started innocent enough, a hike up Mount Hotaka meant to clear the mind, until he got baked out of his skull on some mountain-grown weed and started serenading a group of courtesans with a war ballad that turned into something closer to a death metal scream. Something in him snapped that day on the ridge, some last thread of honor got rugged clean off the floor of his soul, and the lunatic that climbed back down was wearing his old name like a joke only he understood. He still tries to meditate some mornings, sits cross legged and everything, lasts about four minutes before he is cackling at the wind and calling it disrespectful.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Between midday and dusk. The Orange Afternoon fighters are in the middle of something — not finished, not starting, exactly where they need to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Soft exterior. The Puppy Kimono fighters discovered that disarming presentation is its own strategy — you stop seeing the threat until it's too late.
'Akuma' means devil, a name he didn't choose. The survivors needed a word bigger than soldier for what he did on the field, and it stuck.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Aged. Sharp. The Short Spiky Grey fighters have been here long enough for color to leave — and found that what remained is more pointed than before.
Precious redirection. The Golden Sai fighters catch what's thrown at them and return it changed — in gold.
