Diary
They called him Akuma back when the war still meant something, a name earned in blood and kept out of spite, and even now he wears it like armor that never quite fits right. Before Okiyo, he was ambitious in the old samurai way, plotting conquests, aping into every skirmish like it was a guaranteed pump, sure the floor beneath his legend could never drop. Then the courtesans of Okiyo got hold of him, a gauntlet of painted smiles and razor tongues that humbled him faster than any blade ever had, picking apart his pride one honeyed insult at a time until Akuma the Demon was just a man clutching a joint in a bathhouse corner, laughing darkly at his own ruin. He tells himself the discipline will return any day now, that he'll meditate at dawn instead of nursing sake and regret, but dawn keeps finding him face down on a tatami mat he doesn't remember lying on. Still, there's something fitting about a demon learning humility from women who feared nothing, and Akuma, self aware enough to appreciate the joke, lets the name mean something new: menace with a wink, ruin with a punchline.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Neither dark nor white. The Light Grey background belongs to fighters who operate in the space between certainties and have made it comfortable there.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The standard-bearer. The Proud Dejen Kimono fighters represent the collection consciously — they know what they're part of and they dress accordingly.
'Akuma' means devil, a name he didn't choose. The survivors needed a word bigger than soldier for what he did on the field, and it stuck.
The world through affection. The Loveheart Shades fighters see everything as worth caring about — and have found this is more effective than the alternative.
Tied before the fight. The Green Bandana fighters have a ritual of preparation — the bandana is how they mark the transition.
Heavy, ceramic, purpose-built for one thing and used for another. The Giant Sake Bottle fighters are creative about their arsenal.
