They named him Akuma in the war because men who saw his blade did not live long enough to argue, and he wears that old dread like a cloak even now, amused that the demon of the battlefield became the fool of Dojo Towers. It was there, beneath neon signs and the low hum of a hundred bad decisions, that he questioned his honor for the first time in years, right around the same hour a doctor delivered the verdict on a certain regrettable itch he'd earned from a night he barely remembers aping into. Akuma laughed at the diagnosis the way he once laughed at death, because what else can a demon do when the battlefield becomes a bathhouse and the enemy is his own appetite. He sought counsel afterward, wandering the Towers asking anyone sober enough to answer what a man is supposed to do when the war is over and the only discipline left is remembering to wrap it up next time. No one had a good answer, so he did what disciplined men do worst: he promised himself tomorrow, poured another drink, and let the demon rest a little longer in the wreckage of his own legend.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Between midday and dusk. The Orange Afternoon fighters are in the middle of something — not finished, not starting, exactly where they need to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Blade pattern. The Katana Kimono fighters understand that what you wear signals what you expect — and they expect a fight.
'Akuma' means devil, a name he didn't choose. The survivors needed a word bigger than soldier for what he did on the field, and it stuck.
Traditional, ornamented. The Shoji Tassel Glasses fighters dress their perception in ceremony — seeing is a ritual for them, not a reflex.
Elevated tradition. The High Straw Rice Hat fighters dress high above their own heads — everything they do is reaching upward.
