They called him Akuma in the war because the enemy needed a name for the thing that kept coming through the smoke, and he wore it now like a scar he refuses to let heal, half proud, half punished. Before the blade found him he was a quiet man, the kind who bowed too long and apologized for existing, but that man got rugged somewhere between the battlefield and the neon glow of the red light district where he now drinks his memories one lantern-lit alley at a time. He tells himself this is discipline, sitting still with the ghosts, counting his sins like prayer beads, but really he's just aped into another bottle of shochu hoping the math on his guilt finally floors out. Every dawn he vows to meditate instead of marinate, to trade the vice for the void he used to sit in as a monk-in-training, and every dusk he's back in the district, laughing darkly at his own reputation because the demon everyone fears can't even forgive the boy he used to be. Akuma smiles at that, the terrible practiced smile that ended wars, and pours another cup for a peace he stopped believing he deserves.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Royalty that refused the crown. The Purple Night backgrounds belong to fighters who could have been somewhere easier and chose not to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The standard-bearer. The Proud Dejen Kimono fighters represent the collection consciously — they know what they're part of and they dress accordingly.
'Akuma' means devil, a name he didn't choose. The survivors needed a word bigger than soldier for what he did on the field, and it stuck.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Crow spirit, long nose, ancient power. The Tengu Mask fighters are wearing something that predates the Dojo — something older that chose to be here.
A live chicken. As a weapon. The Chicken fighters have committed to an approach that nobody expected and found that unexpectedness is half the battle.
