Diary
Haru still bows to strangers on the Kabukicho corner like a shrine attendant, grin nailed to his face, because if he stops smiling for even a second the whole rickety scaffolding of him might collapse into the gutter. It started, as these things always start, with one polite sake with The English Pilot, who toasted to old glory and bad decisions in the same breath, and by the third round Haru had traded his samurai's dignity for a street full of witnesses to his flailing, off-key victory dance. Now he sells himself for coin on that same crowded street, cheerfully hawking his own company like it is a limited-mint NFT, insisting business is booming even as the floor drops out beneath his self-respect. Every dawn he vows this is the day he returns to discipline, cold water, quiet meditation, maybe even paying his own bar tab, and every dawn the vow gets aped straight into another bottle by noon. Underneath the relentless sunshine act, though, something iron still stands at attention, waiting patiently for Haru to remember he used to be a warrior and not just the punchline everyone on the block laughs at while they order another round.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Red moon, heightened stakes. The Red High Moon backgrounds mark the moments when everything was on the line and the fighter stayed.
Every cracked card. White is the beginner's belt, and torn is how the crack left it, border and all: a White card is never printed. A repair earns Blue.
The man who decided grinning was braver than breaking. He held a line so long his smile became the squad's good-luck charm; now he beams through the wreckage of peacetime, a very tired samurai behind the widest smile in the Dojo.
A flying squirrel, riding along. The Little Momonga Friend fighters lost their lords and their honor, but kept one small companion who never asks about either.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Time made visible, flowing. Flowing Dreads fighters carry their history in motion — every lock a year, and the years are moving now.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,468 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Snapped, but still swung. The Broken Naginata fighters lost half the reach and none of the conviction — they simply stand closer now.
