Haru had promised himself this would be the sunrise he finally sat with the temple priests like a proper disciplined man, spine straight, mind clear, no floor-checking his phone for green candles mid-meditation. Instead he passed out cross-legged before the incense even finished burning, drooling gently onto a two-hundred-year-old prayer mat while three monks tested his resolve by chanting louder and louder around his snoring body. He woke to sunlight, a crick in his neck shaped like regret, and one priest quietly asking if he'd been aped into another late-night gambling stream again, which, fair, he had. Haru just grinned that grin, the one that's held together half his face since the wars ended, and declared this humiliation was actually a blessing in disguise, character development, the plot thickening in his favor. He's already decided tomorrow's the day the samurai in him wakes up before the sun does, and he almost believes it, which is its own quiet kind of iron underneath all that cheer.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Lived-in color. The Warm Grey background belongs to fighters who have been through enough that their edges have softened without their core changing.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Blessed by the Dojo's own rites. The Ordained Dejen fighters carry something that can't be revoked — the Dojo recognized them and that recognition is permanent.
The man who decided grinning was braver than breaking. He held a line so long his smile became the squad's good-luck charm; now he beams through the wreckage of peacetime, a very tired samurai behind the widest smile in the Dojo.
Gold-edged, elevated. The Pompous Glasses fighters have earned the right to look down at something and have chosen to look down at mediocrity.
Clean but rough. The White Ruffian fighters look like they could have behaved properly and chose not to. The white makes the choice more visible.
