Diary
Gloomy Masumi did not attack his superior at Mount Fuji out of rage, which would at least have been warm; he did it with the flat, clinical certainty of a man who has already accepted the outcome before the punch lands. The mountain watched, unimpressed, the way mountains watch everything, and Masumi noted this too, filing it away as further proof that the universe is mostly indifferent to effort. He told himself it was training, a discipline exercise in the old samurai tradition, though any honest accounting would call it what it was: a degenerate move by a man who traded meditation for menace and never looked back. His superior fell, his rank rose, and Masumi felt nothing resembling triumph, only the dull certainty that skill gained this way is skill built on sand. He walks away from Fuji today the same as he walked toward it, clear-eyed about his own rot, a true Degen who sees the abyss and simply nods at it like an old training partner.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Royalty that refused the crown. The Purple Night backgrounds belong to fighters who could have been somewhere easier and chose not to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Not a garment — a record. The Battle Scars clothing is what's left after everything else was stripped away. These fighters wear their history.
'Masumi' means true clarity — and that's exactly his problem. He sees what's actually there, not the comfortable version, which made him priceless in war and unbearable at a party.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Architecture on the scalp. Each knot a decision. The Black Bantu Knots fighters make their choices visible at the top, where everyone can see.
Heavy, ceramic, purpose-built for one thing and used for another. The Giant Sake Bottle fighters are creative about their arsenal.
