Diary
Masumi remembers the snow outside the Dojo with the precision of a man cataloguing his own funeral, the way Ikari's breath fogged between them as he made the trade sound like destiny instead of a rug. He said yes, because saying no had never once protected him from anything, and by the time the snow melted so had his wallet, his floor price, and whatever thin optimism he'd been rationing since the wars ended. Now he does not leave the Dojo, not out of discipline, though he tells himself it's discipline, but because the outside world is just more snow and more Ikaris waiting to happen. He still meditates every morning with perfect samurai posture, eyes closed, mind clear, and somewhere around minute four he is already calculating exactly how much he lost, which is, he notes without surprise, everything. It is not fear that keeps him inside. It is arithmetic.
Not contacts. Not paint. Something older. The Shaman Eyes fighters see through the collection at a frequency others can't access, and they've been doing it since before the derug.
Lived-in color. The Warm Grey background belongs to fighters who have been through enough that their edges have softened without their core changing.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Grew things before they fought things. The Farmer clothing is the clearest record of what a fighter was before the Dojo changed them.
'Masumi' means true clarity — and that's exactly his problem. He sees what's actually there, not the comfortable version, which made him priceless in war and unbearable at a party.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
The Dojo's version of a mohawk. More specific, more named. The Dejen Mohawk fighters chose the Dojo's interpretation of rebellion over the generic one.
The floor weapon. Everywhere. Common because common is honest — the Rusty Nail fighters know that what you find is often better than what you planned.
