On a misty morning that looked exactly like every other misty morning, Masumi cut down a line of ronin with the flat efficiency of a man doing chores, and somewhere between the third and fourth body his mojo quietly filed for divorce and left no forwarding address. He noticed its absence the way you notice your floor got rugged, a slow dawning horror disguised as calm. Now he meditates every morning for exactly ninety seconds before reaching for the vape, tells himself this counts as discipline, and writes the failure down in a small notebook labeled PROGRESS with grim, honest handwriting. He knows recovery is supposed to look like a rising candle and his instead looks like a man lying face down in fog, occasionally twitching, technically still breathing. Masumi calls this healing because the alternative is admitting the mist won and, bleakly, that would just be true.
Not contacts. Not paint. Something older. The Shaman Eyes fighters see through the collection at a frequency others can't access, and they've been doing it since before the derug.
Paper screens at night. The Shoji Night fighters were born in the quiet hours, when the market sleeps and only the committed are still at their screens.

'Masumi' means true clarity — and that's exactly his problem. He sees what's actually there, not the comfortable version, which made him priceless in war and unbearable at a party.
