Diary
Masumi carved his first blade out of sake-house driftwood on a night nobody remembers, least of all him, and somehow that splintery little dagger did more for his self-esteem than a decade of actual swordplay ever managed. He tells people it was a spiritual awakening. It was more likely the rice wine talking, but he has since rebuilt an entire personality on top of that one flimsy plank. Every morning he wakes vowing to return to the dojo mats, to sweat out the rot, to become disciplined again, and every morning he ends up back at the same sticky table whittling another useless stick sword while the regulars applaud like he's cured plague. He knows the moment was small and the wood was rotten and the confidence was fake, and he relives it anyway, because in a life this bleak, even a lie that warm is worth repeating. He calls it growth. It is closer to a man refusing to let go of the one good minute he ever had.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Unclear until it clears. The Grey Mist backgrounds belong to fighters who operate where others can't see, and use that fog as their advantage.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
After the rice was used. The Rice Sack Rags fighters wear what remains after everything useful has been extracted — and find it sufficient.
'Masumi' means true clarity — and that's exactly his problem. He sees what's actually there, not the comfortable version, which made him priceless in war and unbearable at a party.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Practical. Focused. The Hair Bun fighters pulled back what was in their eyes so they could see the whole board.
