Diary
Junichiro once commanded the Okiyo syndicate with the precision of a man who alphabetized his own threats, every debt collected on schedule, every blade drawn at the correct angle, every subordinate measured against a standard only he fully understood. He tells himself he still holds that standard, even now, even here, even as he sits across from Legless Tom counting shochu cups like they are ledgers that refuse to balance. Somewhere beneath the noise he can still hear the old discipline calling to him, the samurai posture his father drilled into him before there were syndicates or sake or a one legged degenerate laughing at his own jokes, and Junichiro answers that call every morning with a rigid bow and every night with another round he swore he would not order. He measures Tom's tolerance, his own tolerance, the tab, the hour, the exact moment his composure began sliding off the table, and finds himself failing his own inspection with the same exacting eye he once used on lesser men. Yet when asked if he regrets the empire traded for this endless Okiyo drinking match, Junichiro straightens his spine, meets the question like a blade, and answers with the clean, proud, unblinking honesty of a man who has never once let regret pass his exacting inspection: none.
Heavier than gold. Less prestigious. More honest. The Iron Earring fighters chose function over signal and consider that to be the signal.
Red moon, heightened stakes. The Red High Moon backgrounds mark the moments when everything was on the line and the fighter stayed.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
No clothing needed. The Shirtless Runt fighters removed every layer between themselves and the fight. Maximum exposure. Maximum honesty.
'Junichiro' — pure first son, the standard the others are measured against, usually by Junichiro himself. Flawless form, cleanest blade, a line that held because he'd sooner die than break it.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Practical. Focused. The Hair Bun fighters pulled back what was in their eyes so they could see the whole board.
