Junichiro once measured his sword strokes to the width of a rice grain, and he still measures everything, the pour of his sake, the angle of his bow, the disappointment in his father's ghostly memory. Now he measures the exact degree his left arm bends the wrong way, snapped clean while he slept drunk among a herd of goats he'd apedeep into for warmth after losing his futon in a dice game he swore he wouldn't play again. He tells himself the goats were a tactical decision, insulation theory, a discipline of survival worthy of the old dojo, though everyone in Kyoto knows he simply passed out in a snowbank clutching a bottle and a borrowed blanket smelling of hay. There is a strange peace in his eyes now, the kind only a truly ruined man can access, for with the arm broken and useless, he finally has an excuse to stop chasing perfection and just heal, badly, on his own crooked terms. He calls it enlightenment. His sling is stitched with military precision, of course, because even collapse must be executed with proper form.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Between midday and dusk. The Orange Afternoon fighters are in the middle of something — not finished, not starting, exactly where they need to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Self-described. The Womanizer clothing is a declaration that the fighter has a particular relationship with the world and considers this worth advertising.
'Junichiro' — pure first son, the standard the others are measured against, usually by Junichiro himself. Flawless form, cleanest blade, a line that held because he'd sooner die than break it.
Carried more than worn. The Pocket Glasses fighters have perfect vision when they choose to apply it — the rest of the time, they let instinct run.
Not born with them. Became them. The Grey Oni Horns fighters grew their nature slowly until it became structural.
War god's spear. Divine reach. The Bishamon Yari fighters have authorization from something older than the Dojo.
