His status climbed with every crude word, and he felt something shameful and electric bloom in his chest, the thrill of a disciplined soul finally letting the leash snap. He tells people now, calm as still water, that the old Junichiro would have meditated through the chaos instead of aping straight into it, mouth first, dignity rugged on arrival. Some nights he still tries to kneel in silence like the monks taught him, but the quiet never holds, and he laughs at himself for it, because even reincarnation apparently comes with a floor price on self-control.
