Diary
Junichiro died once, or so the shrine-keepers at Kinosaki still whisper, and whatever walked back out of that mountain onsen wasn't quite the same soldier who walked in. The snakes found him first, three fat vipers coiled in the steam where every other bather screamed and scattered, and he only nodded at them, slow, like debts he'd expected to collect eventually. He named the biggest one Mochi, let it drape across his shoulders while he sipped shochu hot enough to strip lacquer, utterly unbothered, the calm on his face reading either as enlightenment or the laziest floor-bid into freedom anyone in the Dojo has ever aped into. He still tells the young ones he's rebuilding his discipline, some morning soon, right after this soak, right after this cup, right after whatever comes next that isn't discipline at all. The wars burned the fear out of him and left this instead, a man who survived his own ending and now treats every day after as a rug he's already been pulled from, so why flinch at snakes.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Between midday and dusk. The Orange Afternoon fighters are in the middle of something — not finished, not starting, exactly where they need to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Grew things before they fought things. The Farmer clothing is the clearest record of what a fighter was before the Dojo changed them.
He walked into something that should have ended him and walked back out with the same name and none of the same conditions. Nobody agrees what happened out there, and he's in no hurry to explain.
The world through affection. The Loveheart Shades fighters see everything as worth caring about — and have found this is more effective than the alternative.
Named for sensation. The Splitting Axe Ache fighters' hair is named for how their opponents feel after they're done.
The other fish weapon. The Dead Fish fighters use something that smells like loss as a weapon — opponents are too confused to defend properly.
