They say Junichiro Reborn died once already, so a bad hand at the Hidden Teahouse should have felt like nothing, a pebble tossed into a lake that had already swallowed him whole. He stared down Oleg across the low table, chose stillness over sense, and watched his fortune walk out the door in Oleg's pocket like it had never belonged to him at all, which, in the grand sutra of things, it probably hadn't. The old masters taught non-attachment, and Junichiro likes to joke that he simply took the lesson further than intended, attaching himself to nothing, not even the floor beneath his own bags. He has chosen to forget the incident entirely, filing it under previous lifetimes, right next to the version of him that once held a sword instead of a losing bet. Every morning he sits in meditation, vowing discipline, clarity, restraint, and every evening finds him back at that same low table, calm as a man who has already lost everything and is simply curious what losing feels like twice.”
