Diary
They say Junichiro Reborn died once, quietly, somewhere between the third sake and the dojo he swore he'd rebuild by dawn, and whoever walked out the other side of that silence kept the name but rewired the wiring. Now he haunts the Tsukiji fish market at first light, not for tuna, not for discipline, but for the low hum of validation he can't get anywhere else, holding up a mackerel like it's a katana and waiting for strangers to tell him it's the finest blade they've ever seen. Somewhere in that ritual he became tainted, not by the sea or the blood on the ice, but by his own hunger for applause, and he wears the stain like a second scar, calm as still water, smiling like a man who's already forgiven himself. He tells the vendors he's recalibrating his bushido, one compliment at a time, though everyone including him knows it's just a degen fishing for likes with a real fish as bait. Every morning he vows this is the day he trades vanity for virtue, and every morning the tide, the crowd, and his own reflection rug him softly, sweetly, right back into the same current.
Whose bones? The fighter who wears them knows. They're not saying. The Finger Bones fighters operate on a level of commitment that most find uncomfortable.
Royalty that refused the crown. The Purple Night backgrounds belong to fighters who could have been somewhere easier and chose not to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The Dojo itself, worn. Whoever puts on the Degen Dojo Kimono becomes part of the institution — and the institution becomes part of them.
He walked into something that should have ended him and walked back out with the same name and none of the same conditions. Nobody agrees what happened out there, and he's in no hurry to explain.
Still functional. Functionally broken. The Broken Glasses fighters see a cracked version of reality and have found it more honest than the uncracked one.
Practical and armed. The Hair Bun With Chopsticks fighters put utensils in their hair and call it hair care — the dual function is not accidental.
Not metaphorical. Someone's leg bone, spiked. The Spiky Femur fighters have been here long enough that the bones of their enemies are now equipment.
