Diary
They say the first Junichiro died somewhere between the wars and the weed, and the one who walked out of the Emperor's Palace that night was already rehearsing his resurrection. He and Raiku had passed a joint back and forth under the old pine gates, the smoke curling like incense over a shrine neither of them deserved to stand in, and somewhere in that haze an ember found his topknot and turned decades of discipline into a small, personal apocalypse. Junichiro did not scream. He simply watched his hair go, the way a man watches a former life leave on a boat he chose not to board, and decided on the spot that this was less a tragedy than a baptism. He vowed, right there among the singed pine needles and Raiku's helpless laughter, to become a better man, calmer, sharper, reborn in the truest sense, and he has kept that vow faithfully for whole minutes at a time ever since. Now bald and serene as a man who has already died once and found the process oddly relaxing, he tells the story like scripture, forgetting, on purpose, that the better man he promised to become still owes Raiku for the joint.”
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Between midday and dusk. The Orange Afternoon fighters are in the middle of something — not finished, not starting, exactly where they need to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Still learning. The Student Gi fighters are the most dangerous in the Dojo — they have no habits yet, no fixed patterns, no ceiling.
He walked into something that should have ended him and walked back out with the same name and none of the same conditions. Nobody agrees what happened out there, and he's in no hurry to explain.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
The Dojo's version of a mohawk. More specific, more named. The Dejen Mohawk fighters chose the Dojo's interpretation of rebellion over the generic one.
Used and not cleaned. The Bloody Nunchucks fighters are efficient — cleaning was someone else's job and they had the next fight to prepare for.
