They say Junichiro Reborn died once, briefly, and came back with better hands and worse patience, which is exactly the combination that ruined a perfectly nice wedding in the Dojo gardens. He had promised the monks he would stay serene through the vows, had even meditated for four whole minutes that morning, a personal record he mentions to this day like it's a floor price he once hit. But when the sake was poured wrong and a cousin heckled his choice of obi, something old and armored woke up in his chest, and he flipped a ceremonial table clean over the koi pond while the geisha he was marrying just laughed like she'd bet on this outcome the whole time. He apologized to the fish, not the guests, then married her anyway among the wreckage of lanterns and spilled rice wine, and swears the vows counted double for the drama. Discipline, he says with that unnervingly calm smile, is a rug he keeps trying to buy back, and he has never once regretted the pull.
