Diary
Masumi Steel used to be the kind of samurai who could hold a blade steady through a typhoon, but these days the only thing he holds steady is a bluff, and even that shakes. Word around the dojo is he snuck out at midnight to blackmail his own friend over some floor-price secret nobody asked for, grinning the whole time like it was a victimless crime and a paid vacation rolled into one. Somewhere between the threat and the payoff, a rash bloomed across his arm, mysterious as a rug pull, itchy as regret, and it has never fully left, a permanent souvenir tattooed on by karma with terrible penmanship. He tells anyone who'll listen it's just a heat thing, definitely not curses, definitely not the universe billing him for the extortion, and he says it with the same easy smirk he used to wear before a duel, back when his word actually meant something. Every morning he vows to meditate, sheath the mouth, walk the old disciplined path again, and every morning by noon he's aping into some new scheme, scratching his arm, laughing at himself because honestly, at this point, what's left to lose.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Hidden in plain sight. The Night Forest fighters do most of their work in the dark — not secretively, but quietly. They don't need an audience.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Seasonal. Fleeting. Beautiful because it ends. The Autumn Sakura Kimono fighters understand that the things that don't last are what make things matter.
They called him Steel because nothing moved him — cold face, cold hands, the last man standing while braver fools lost their nerve. In peacetime, steel with nothing to cut just rusts.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Clean but rough. The White Ruffian fighters look like they could have behaved properly and chose not to. The white makes the choice more visible.
