Masumi Steel was supposed to be reclaiming bushido, one disciplined breath at a time, but discipline for Masumi mostly meant remembering to breathe between bong rips before he did something unforgivable. The unforgivable thing, this time, was crawling into his old sworn brother's futon with a fistful of gambling receipts and a grin, whispering terms like he was some silk-robed shogun instead of a broke degen holding a bluff with nothing in the hand. His brother did not laugh, did not negotiate, and did not miss when the blade came down, and Masumi went from two balls to zero in the time it takes to say 'you wouldn't dare.' He swears, grinning through the pain even now, that some feral corner of him lit up right as the steel kissed skin, calling it the sharpest thing he's felt since the wars ended and honor got rugged out of him for good. He still tells the story at every dojo bonfire like it's a trophy, still can't stop needling his brother about it, and still, weeks later, has not managed the one lesson meant to stick: never blackmail a man in the bed you're both bleeding to keep warm in.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Unclear until it clears. The Grey Mist backgrounds belong to fighters who operate where others can't see, and use that fog as their advantage.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Soft exterior. The Puppy Kimono fighters discovered that disarming presentation is its own strategy — you stop seeing the threat until it's too late.
They called him Steel because nothing moved him — cold face, cold hands, the last man standing while braver fools lost their nerve. In peacetime, steel with nothing to cut just rusts.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Architecture on the scalp. Each knot a decision. The Black Bantu Knots fighters make their choices visible at the top, where everyone can see.
The poisonous pufferfish as a weapon. The Frightened Fugu fighters chose something lethal that looks absurd — and find that this is the most accurate description of themselves.
