Diary
Masumi Steel used to sleep on stone floors for discipline, back when his blade meant something and his word meant more, but these days discipline is just the thing he loses money betting he still has. He wagered a fistful of ryo and whatever pride he had aped left that he could out-freeze a temple full of priests, curling up in the snow beside them like some enlightened madman chasing satori through hypothermia. The priests, warm in their robes and their centuries of good sense, watched him shiver and turn the color of a bruised plum while he grinned through chattering teeth and swore he was winning. He lost the bet, lost feeling in two toes, and gained exactly one lesson that he immediately floored on: never bet against men who've already made peace with suffering, because they'll out-suffer you for sport. He knows better now, he says, the same way he knew better the last five times, already eyeing the next dumb wager like discipline's just one good bluff away.”
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Red moon, heightened stakes. The Red High Moon backgrounds mark the moments when everything was on the line and the fighter stayed.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Left the order. Didn't stop fighting. The Dejen Apostate fighters broke from whatever school trained them and found that the training stayed anyway.
They called him Steel because nothing moved him — cold face, cold hands, the last man standing while braver fools lost their nerve. In peacetime, steel with nothing to cut just rusts.
Still functional. Functionally broken. The Broken Glasses fighters see a cracked version of reality and have found it more honest than the uncracked one.
Tied before the fight. The Green Bandana fighters have a ritual of preparation — the bandana is how they mark the transition.
War god's spear. Divine reach. The Bishamon Yari fighters have authorization from something older than the Dojo.
