Diary
Sparring day at the dojo grounds and Masumi Steel showed up with a joint tucked behind his ear like a lazy pencil, more interested in the floor price of his own attention than any actual footwork. Somewhere between his third exhale and a half-hearted lunge, a snake slithered across his mat like it owned the place, and Masumi, grinning like he'd just aped into the trade of the century, put it down with one clean strike before the smoke even cleared from his lungs. The other fighters stood there stunned, blades still sheathed, watching a stoned man accidentally out-samurai them all, and Masumi just shrugged and said something about instinct never rugging you even when discipline does. He tells everyone he's turning it around next week, less weed, more forms, real bushido energy, but even he laughs when he says it, because the future's a coin flip and he's never once called heads right. Still, snake's dead, joint's lit, and Masumi figures a man who can kill on accident while high off his ass has got nothing left to lose and everything left to bluff.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Hidden in plain sight. The Night Forest fighters do most of their work in the dark — not secretively, but quietly. They don't need an audience.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Unglamorous and honest. The Black Peasant Sack fighters didn't dress for anyone else. They dressed for function and found that function is its own statement.
They called him Steel because nothing moved him — cold face, cold hands, the last man standing while braver fools lost their nerve. In peacetime, steel with nothing to cut just rusts.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Heavy. Absolute. The Black Iron Kabuto fighters chose protection over style and discovered that in the Dojo, this IS style.
The floor weapon. Everywhere. Common because common is honest — the Rusty Nail fighters know that what you find is often better than what you planned.
