Diary
Masumi Steel once swore he'd hold his tongue like a katana sheathed, all discipline, all patience, but that vow got rugged the same night he got comfortable in Yuji's bed and let his mouth run wild with half-baked confessions and full-baked opinions. He grinned through it even as the words left him, needling Yuji about everything from his sake choices to his soul, bluffing courage he didn't quite have while the weed smoke curled lazy circles above them both. By morning the silence between them had floors lower than his last degen trade, and Masumi, ever the optimist with nothing left to lose, just shrugged and said the market for their friendship would surely pump again. Still, some nights he lies awake wondering what could have been if he'd stayed samurai-quiet instead of ape-mouthed, if discipline had won even once against his need to fill every gap with a joke or a jab. He knows he'll try to change, mutters something about meditation and mindfulness, then immediately picks a fight with a vending machine just to feel something other than regret.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Paper screens at night. The Shoji Night fighters were born in the quiet hours, when the market sleeps and only the committed are still at their screens.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
No clothing needed. The Shirtless Runt fighters removed every layer between themselves and the fight. Maximum exposure. Maximum honesty.
They called him Steel because nothing moved him — cold face, cold hands, the last man standing while braver fools lost their nerve. In peacetime, steel with nothing to cut just rusts.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Heavy. Absolute. The Black Iron Kabuto fighters chose protection over style and discovered that in the Dojo, this IS style.
Musical instrument. Strung instrument. The Shamisen fighters understand that performance and violence are not opposites — they are the same act in different registers.
